CONSERVATIVES SINK INTO GUTTER POLITICS
Every week, I receive complaints about the massive amounts of distasteful Conservative propaganda being circulated through the mail by Stephen Harper’s Members of Parliament.
As usual, like trained seals, they just do whatever Mr. Harper tells them to do. They never stand up for themselves or for Saskatchewan.
These Conservative mailings – printed and distributed at taxpayers’ expense – are riddled with lies, smears and innuendos. Nasty negative campaigning at its worst! A lot like the personally abusive stuff that dominates U.S. politics!
But Canadian voters don’t appreciate all this crude Conservative character assassination. It’s dishonest, and there’s a back-lash building against it – just as that sort of hateful stuff turned George W. Bush into the most disrespected president in American history.
It’s particularly ironic that the Conservative Party is engaged in this negative junk-mail campaign (which violates every principle of Parliamentary decency) at exactly the same time as they are under investigation for allegedly illegal over-spending in the last federal election.
It’s not every day that the RCMP turn up at the headquarters of a national political party with a 700-page Search Warrant authorized by a Superior Court Judge to look for evidence of illegal conduct.
But that’s the gutter-level at which Mr. Harper operates.
One of Canada’s leading political scientists, Dr. John Courtney, who works at the Diefenbaker Centre at the University of Saskatchewan, says he has never seen anything like this. These charges are serious.
Around the world, the Conservatives are giving Canada a black-eye. For example, renowned newspapers like The Guardian in the U.K. are now comparing Stephen Harper to Richard Nixon. Now that hurts!
Conservatives from Saskatchewan are implicated in this mess – including David Anderson from Cypress Hills-Grasslands. Not surprisingly, he is also one of the goons pumping out all that hateful junk-mail.
